Alex Barnes is Head of Regulatory Affairs for Gazprom Marketing & Trading Limited, based in the UK. After joining GM&T in 2009 he established the Regulatory Affairs team which covers gas, power and financial regulation in the countries in which GM&T operates. He has 23 years experience in the oil and gas industry, focusing on the gas industry for the last 19 years, working for Total and BG Group prior to GM&T. For the last 13 years he has focussed on gas market design and regulation. He is chairman of the European Federation of Energy Traders Gas Capacity Work Group, and is one of the “prime mover” advisors to ENTSOG on the development of the EU Network Codes for Capacity and Tariffs. He was a member of ACER’s expert panel on gas transportation tariffs, and is an advisor to the EU-Russia Gas Advisory Council. He has an MBA from Henley Management College, and a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University.
