About the 2017 Forum

The world is changing. 2016-2017 has been a year of political upheaval and surprise, and role of company secretary never been so important. The results of the general election raise more questions regarding the government’s corporate governance green paper, Brexit provides uncertainly from all angles, and the administration change in the US adds further depth to the uncertainty for multinationals.

Our 6th Company Secretary Forum is dedicated to company secretaries and senior members of the secretariat team and many of the panellists and speakers are company secretaries with first-hand experience of the issues raised.

This years topics include:

  • Board composition
  • Diversity and evaluation
  • Directors’ duties and stakeholder engagement
  • MAR: a practical perspective one year on
  • Corporate crime and director liability
  • GDPR
  • and many more

The Forum will differentiate itself from the previous 5 years by ensuring a higher level of participation from delegates, and interaction with speakers. Driven by feedback from delegates we have reduced the numbers of breakout session choices to ensure you have more chance of hearing relevant and in-depth discussions, and we even hope to bring a live-action cyber-attack simulation to the main stage.

We will be inviting chairmen, CEOs, NEDs, chairs of relevant committees to present; finding out how they engage with their company secretaries to enable successful and sustainable organisations. You will also hear from industry leaders from key associations as well as recognised investors.

Most importantly our forum is a chance for you to ask questions and speak your mind. We provide a platform for company secretaries to voice their concerns and benchmark against peers.

We asked our delegates what they most enjoyed about the 2016 Forum, here’s what they said:

“Very good, very informative, very enjoyable”

– Tim George, Deputy Company Secretary, Carillion

“It was a well-structured and a well planned event. I enjoyed the variety of sessions and the short, concise updates available at each session. Nothing lasted too long that you got bored!”

– Annabelle Burton, Deputy Company Secretary, GB Group

“Fantastic”

– Tiana Joannou, Assistant Company Secretary, First Quantum Minerals
