About the 2017 Conference

This has been an important year for competition law in the UK. The headline cases have received judgments and the impact of those judgments will be far-reaching – is this the end for MIFs? What changes will we see post Brexit and what will be the role of the EU Commission going forward? 4 years after its creation, what can we expect from the CMA and its interaction with the sector regulators?

Back for its 4th year,  the Competition Law Conference has teamed up with competition top tier set Monckton Chambers and this year welcome a number of leading firms to bring you important updates, legal and regulatory developments, and practical tips to overcome your in house competition and compliance challenges

This year we are including four breakout sessions to give delegates more choice and a greater opportunity for interactions with speakers. We also appreciate that context is essential for fully understanding legal developments and as such we are bringing on board a greater number of in-house competition experts from a number of well-known brands, as well as experts from the CMA, FCA and CAT. As the UK competition regime sets itself to the challenge of understanding Brexit, this conference is well placed to look into the efficacy of the current system, review current and future challenges, and also review interactions between and concurrency of the competition regulators.

Conference topics include:

  • Use of competition law for consumer protection
  • The status of European Commission infringement decisions post-Brexit
  • Damages and private enforcement: Current climate for claiming damages and risk for companies of claims, 2 years on from Consumer Rights Act

  • Practical implications of competition law to distribution models
  • The role of the ECJ post-Brexit
  • Compliance, dawn raids, and handling competitor information
  • Merger control update
