David Morgan

Ian Coleman

Ian is the Senior Technical Underwriter in the ATE Department at Elite Insurance Company Limited.

Ian qualified as a Solicitor in 1992. Following qualification he worked for a BTE Legal Expenses Underwriting Agency undertaking claims across a range of personal and commercial litigation.

From 1996 Ian has worked for a number of start-up Insurance Brokers and Underwriting Agencies and been involved in setting up companies for legal expenses underwriting and claims handling.

Elizabeth Campetti

Steve Wright

Having once served as interim CISO for Unilever, and completed similar leadership assignments whilst at Deloitte, PwC, Siemens and Capita, Steve has gained a full appreciation of what is required to get the job done in a cost effective and timely fashion. Throughout my career, Steve’s natural ability to lead from the front, coach team members, take responsibility with courage and deliver on promises is what sets him out from the pack.

Martin Brostoff

Martin Brostoff is the Europe and Asia General Counsel for three of GKN’s four divisions, covering its automotive and off-highway businesses. Ewan Duncan

Former Head of Anti-Illicit Trade Intelligence Unit, British American Tobacco

Born in Scotland and educated at Edinburgh University (Joint Hons – Mathematics & Statistics) Ewan was commissioned into the Royal Marines in 1980. Following a variety of work, including operational tours of duty, he transferred into the Intelligence Corps in order to pursue a career in Security and Intelligence; he served in a variety of roles and foreign countries. After 4 years as a Brigadier and Director Intelligence Corps, he joined British American Tobacco (BAT) in 2009. His appointment was Head of the Anti Illicit Trade Intelligence Unit. There, he managed a team of experts who conducted investigations into the counterfeiting and smuggling of illicit tobacco goods. During his 6 years with BAT, Ewan developed expertise in IP Infringement in Tobacco products. Based in London, this unit with global responsibility is a key element within BAT’s fight against those involved in this serious crime. It works closely with Law Enforcement Agencies around the world as well as other FMCGs who are similarly affected by the counterfeiting and/or smuggling of their goods. Ewan has also participated in many conferences and seminars around the world; both as a speaker and moderator. He recently contributed to RUSI’s study “On Tap: Organised Crime and the Illicit Trade in Tobacco, Alcohol and Pharmaceuticals in the UK”. Ewan is presently a Director of the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG).

Dr. Patrick McLaughlin

Dr Patrick McLaughlin is a Chartered Engineer and Eur Ing. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Engineering and Technology, and the Higher Education Academy. He has an MSc in Industrial Engineering and Production Management and a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA), both from Cranfield. In a career that spans manufacturing engineer, manager and director, he has worked in both multinational and SME businesses. Experience with a range of manufacturing processes and working for a number of different companies allied to experience in several industries has provided a strong background in managing manufacturing operations, including managing growth, downturn, restructuring and relocation of manufacturing facilities.

He has worked in manufacturing industry at director level for over 20 years, and been responsible for several plant-wide lean manufacturing implementations. He has experience of implementing and managing lean manufacturing in automotive, capital goods, industrial equipment and consumer durables. This experience includes responsibility for integrating the design and development of new products into a lean operations environment, and developing a continuous improvement culture to facilitate performance gains in a lean implementation. Recently he led a research based organisational change in a design and manufacturing business to develop an innovation culture that facilitated discontinuous new product innovation.

At Cranfield University he is Course Director for the Operations Excellence MSc programme, and leads the National Manufacturing Debate and National Apprenticeship Competition. He teaches in the areas of Manufacturing Strategy Development and Deployment, Innovation Management, and Operations Excellence. His research interests include the application of cellular manufacturing techniques to maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations to drive productivity improvements; the impact of organizational culture on employee engagement and behaviour in operations environments; and the development and management of innovation within a manufacturing environment.

Kevin Athow

Kevin Athow is Head of Legal Affairs and Regional Compliance Officer at BSH Home Appliances Ltd, the UK subsidiary of BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgerate GmbH, skilled and experienced Kevin started working for the company in April 2010.  He became Company Secretary in June 2013.

Kevin graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 1998 with a LL.B.(Hons), having combined full-time employment with Siemens Communications, then based in Luton, as a Commercial Officer and latterly a Business Analyst and auditor/assessor or Quality Management Systems with his studies.

James Ryan

Jeremy Schrire

Caroline Coates

Caroline is a partner in the commercial insurance team and Executive Partner for Birmingham, specialising in complex and sensitive cases involving reputational risk with a particular focus on the automotive sector. Derek Adamson

  • Advising a well-known US fashion brand on its European trade mark prosecution strategy and challenging third party trade mark applications and registrations at the Community registry.
  • Acting for Sky in connection with a successful trade mark infringement and passing off action against Microsoft in relation to Microsoft’s “SkyDrive” product.
  • Advising Sky on its ongoing dispute with Skype and successfully opposing numerous trade mark applications for SKYPE at the Community and UK registries.
  • Advising a major music company in relation to the application of copyright term extension to previously unreleased 1960s sound recordings.

Josephine has written numerous articles for client and external publications, with a particular focus on soft IP rights in the entertainment sector.

Josephine has a degree and a Masters in Law from Trinity College, Dublin and is currently studying for a Masters in UK, EU and US Copyright Law at King’s College London.

Nina O’Sullivan

Nina qualified in 1998 at a City firm and focusses on contentious IP & IT matters.   She has extensive expertise across all areas of IP litigation and protection, and in related fields such as IT litigation, data protection and defamation & reputation management disputes.  In addition to advising clients on these issues, Nina provides the IP group and its clients with information, training and guidance on developments in IP law and practice.  Nina is also an active member of our TMT, Life Sciences and Betting & Gaming sector groups.

Nina writes regularly for IP publications (including for Journal of Intellectual Property Law & Practice, European Intellectual Property Review, Intellectual Property Magazine, ITMA Review, CIPA Guide and Bio-Science Law Review) and also edits a number of King & Wood Malleson’s client publications. She has lectured extensively on IP and other areas, and recently worked with the Law Commission on its Report into the UK legislation concerning groundless threats of IP infringement proceedings, writing Background Papers on the current law.

Before joining King & Wood Mallesons, Nina spent a period of time as a Senior Lecturer in Business Law, Commercial Law and IP Law & Practice. She is currently an Independent Research Essay adviser on the LLM at University College London.

Nina graduated from Oxford University with a BA (Hons) in Jurisprudence in 1995.  Following qualification, Nina obtained the Diploma in IP Law & Practice from Bristol University and, in 2007, an LLM in Commercial Law (with Distinction).

Kevin Edwards

As both a chartered accountant and a chartered tax adviser, Kevin uses his tax specialism to ensure clients receive the very best service in tax compliance, whilst ensuring tax saving opportunities are identified and maximised. Concentrating on owner-managed businesses, his expertise covers corporate tax, mergers & demergers, acquisitions & MBOs, exit & remuneration planning as well as advising individual clients on more bespoke tax planning strategies.

Kevin is also one of the firm’s R&D tax credit specialists and has advised companies across many sectors including Technology, Manufacturing & Engineering, I.T, Biosciences and Property & Construction on how to maximise their claims from HMRC.  In addition he works with clients to identify how they can benefit from the new Patent box regime from April 2013.

Out of the office, Kevin is a sports fan, enjoying cricket and playing the occasional round of golf as well as spending time with his wife and two sons who keeps him very much on his toes
